Two American Reiver groups deserve a mention:

The first is the Moffat Guard, all of whom are called Moffat (in its many and varied spellings) or are descended from Moffats.

Their website can be found on

The second is Border Horse (great name) which is to be found at www.borderhorse.org/ Not having seen them, and using the website as a guide, they seem to put a lot of effort into getting things right. Unfortunately, their pictures’ section is being worked on at the moment, so I don’t have an image. This will follow when they put more up.

TOM MOSS has written a fictionalised account of the capture and rescue of Kinmont Willie Armstrong. Many would say the Walter Scott version of events is also pretty fictionalised. Tom’s book runs to 290 pages and also contains a factual account of the story. It has about 55 photos, taken by him, of places associated with the capture and rescue of Kinmont and copies of some wonderful paintings of Reivers by a local artist from Langholm.
