The Region of Britain in which we are based.
Expansion of region in map at left to show towns and road system.
To get to the nearest town, which is Dalbeattie, you can use the RAC's route planner on www.rac.co.uk/. This will guide you between any two points by showing you a very simplified map or, better still, giving you a description of the route to take.
If coming via Dumfries take the town by-pass. This is the A75, which is also signposted as the main route to the ferry port at Stranraer. On the Western outskirts of the town you will come to a roundabout which has a large sign at it telling you it is the "Garroch Roundabout", take the first exit left. This will put you on the A711 for Dalbeattie. Then just follow the road signs.
Drive straight through the town until you cross a bridge controlled by traffic lights. Turn right on to the A745 for Castle Douglas. The road climbs a hill and at the top of the road you should see a small slip road going off to the right. This is the road to Buittle Tower.

If you are coming from Castle Douglas, take the A745 heading for Dalbeattie. The slip road is after a series of bends, the last one being 90-degrees with a safety barrier on its left-hand side. The slip road is on the left just after this. The turn is very tight and you are probably better to carry on down the hill, turn in the quarry yard on the left of the road and come back up the hill again.
The
will tell you about Old Buittle Tower and the ruined castle there.
