Anne Barbour, one of our interpreters, performs “Mary Fleming’s Letter”. Mary Fleming was one of the Four Marys, ladies-in-waiting to Mary, Queen of Scots. In the letter, she tells her mother of the gossip of the Court, including news of the Queen’s ride from Jedburgh, across the hills, to visit the Earl of Bothwell, who was lying wounded at Hermitage.
