This is the classic form of the Morion - known as the Combed Morion. Many people, mistakenly, think this is the Spanish form of the helmet, but slight variations on this style were in common use in Germany, Italy, The Low Countries, Scotland and England.
The MORION was a very popular style of helmet in the 16th century and was widespread in its use across Europe. It also came in different forms:

This form of Morion is known as the Spanish Morion or Cabbasset. Equally, this style was also popular throughout Europe.


A poorer quality form of the Morion (compare it to the example at the top of the page). This type might have been worn by a poorer Reiver - or one not so adept at Reiving a better quality one for himself.


A very late form of the Morion, introduced at the end of the 16th Century.
