A closer view of the Anglo-Scottish Open Face Burgonet. The crown of the helmet is formed from one piece of steel - note how it is angled to deflect sword blows. The cheeks are protected by hinged plates. These also make it easier to get the helmet on and off. The peak, apart from providing face protection, also serves the same purpose as any peak on a hat - protection from sun and rain. Note the adequate neck protection seen to good advantage in the view far right. The cord, connecting the two cheeks pieces, is pulled tight to secure the helmet in place on the head. |

Another form of Burgonet - The Combed Burgonet. The comb, apart from its ornamentation purpose,also helps to deflect sword blows, the crown of the helmet not being angled as in the case above. |
